Hegge Stavkirke (stave church)

Hegge Stave Church is a wooden structured church dating from around the 12th Century and is filled with a collection of illustrative wooden carvings.

Wooden carved heads of ancient northern saints are featured on the stave in the attic of the church.The altar piece (triptych) shows the Holy Communion and the Garden of Gethsemane.

There is a special history attached to the making of the altar piece and how it was transported to Hegge Stave Church.

From the end of June to the 15th of August there are daily guided tours,
for the rest of the year, only on request.
